This document presents the rationale behind and the contents of a teachers’ education module preparing future primary school teachers to respond to the needs of newcomer children – with a special focus on young refugees. It is meant to help educators of teachers’ preparatory institutions who intend to set up such modules in their institutions.


The guide consists of three parts: the justification of the existence of such curriculum, the outline of learning objectives of the curriculum justified by review of the literature and empirical investigation, and finally the practical section demonstrating content of curriculum lessons, teaching materials and assessment and evaluation tools.
