Reading to connect!
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws writes about how and why SIREE project partner ARhus invites parents to read to children in the classroom. 'We aim to have a weekly session where parents read to pupils because we value parental involvement in their children's education highly', says director Brigitte Plovie.
Since there are pupils and parents with a migration background too, different languages are covered during the weekly reading session, among which Arabic and Romanian. 'A positive attitude towards children's mother tongue can increase their motivation', explains Sara Clauw, responsible for the library collection at ARhus. For the full article, visit HLN.be
